Mission Sunday
“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who
announces peace, who brings good news….” Isaiah 52
This year’s Catholic Mission Appeal highlights the important work of Catholic
Mission in Myanmar, the former Burma; through programmes aimed to improve
education for children, specifically through teacher training and the
implementation of alternative, child-centred education around the country, change
is happening.
The theme of the appeal is ‘Healing a nation through education’, reflecting our
mission as Christians to provide the tools and support to help those in need, and
in doing so, announcing peace and bringing good news.
Myanmar is in need of much help in healing its many scars inflicted by years of
war, oppression, prejudice and violence; it is still very divided and poor,
handicaps best overcome by education and faith development.
I know many demands are placed on your generosity here at St Canice’s with our
support of the kitchen, JRS and Railaco. Nevertheless, I invite you to support Catholic
Mission’s Appeal once again, for as we know, from those who have much, much is expected.
Envelopes are on the pews and at the back of the church. They can be returned next week or
sent directly to Catholic Mission.
Fr Chris
